Here's his crib--no mattress yet, I'll buy it if we don't get one for the shower.

So here's some more that's not included in the update:
On Saturday, March 19, my mom and I went to Wacker's, a used furniture store to look for a dresser (I just couldn't see paying the prices at Babies R Us). We struck out there, so we headed to Howard Hill, a ready to finish furniture store. I found a dresser that will be a great lifetime piece. We didn't buy it yet, but my mom wants to buy it and stain it for us. We couldn't resist picking this up while we were there.
It will be stained to match the crib, which we also bought that day. After reading a bunch of reviews and searching high and low, we decided to go with the Graco Lauren. I can't see spending $600 on a crib that the baby will probaby do some damage too (I know we were pretty destructive as kids). The next major event happened on Monday. I hadn't been feeling good this weekend--mind you not bad enough to call the doctor, just not quite myself. I took it easy most of Saturday and Sunday. I got up Monday morning and got sick in the shower (maybe this will be the last time?). Even though I did not feel great, I had a lot to do at school that day, I hated the idea of leaving my 2nd block with a sub, I had a tutoring appointment in the afternoon, and I wanted to save my sick day to spend at home with the baby, not while I would still be by myself! I got in my car and headed off to school.
About 20 minutes into my 30 minute commute, I really started feeling ill. The radio sounded farther and farther away and I felt clammy. I began to feel my eyes shut, but I fought it. I was on 295 in the third lane, not a very safe place for this to be happening!! After I turned on my hazards, I managed to scoot over two lanes and get onto the shoulder. Within 30 seconds there were flashing lights behind me, NJ DOT to the rescue. Really that's the only reason I didn't black out. I knew I had to talk to the DOT worker, so I rolled down my window. I told him "It's not the car, it's me." He said he could call an ambulance, I told him I would be ok, I just needed to sit for a minute (in January I'd had a similar episode--without the blackout feeling--I discussed it with the doctor and we agreed it was probably blood sugar related). As I sat there, I decided I'd better call in to school for a substitute. I finally collected myself enough to get back onto the highway. I took the first exit and pulled into a familiar parking lot.
If I just sat for a bit I was sure I'd be ok. The clamminess passed, but there was still a tightness in my chest (I'd already used my inhaler before I left for work that morning), and I knew my heart was beating a bit fast, but I was certain this would pass. I tried to call Doug but he didn't answer, he was sleeping after working an overnight shift. I waited a few more minutes, still telling myself I'd get it together--no such luck. What was left to do but call my mommy!
So I called my mom and asked her to come get me. She brought my brother drive my car home. When we got home, Mom made me do something I did not want to; call the doctor. I called the nurse's line and left a message. I just thought I needed to rest and maybe eat something (I did eat cereal after I was sick that morning). The nurse called back and told me I had to go to the ER. Let me tell you if my mom wasn't there, I would not have gone. I snuck in to tell my sleeping husband what was going on, my ridiculous doctor was making me go to the ER, but I was fine.
It didn't really hit me that something was wrong until I got to the ER and they took my blood pressure. Even as they were taking it I was telling the nurse how my doctor was being silly and I was fine. My blood pressure was 142/93 which is really high for me. For the first time I worried something could be wrong with me, and that made me worry for my baby.
They took me back right away and hooked me up to an EKG. It showed a tachycardia (rapid heartbeat). They tested my blood sugar which was 105--pretty ok. Dr. Flores came in to see me, and said he was concerned about possible dehydration. He ordered 2 bags of fluid and a bunch of tests: blood, urine, and a tilt test. My nurse, Hilda was nice. She hooked me up with to the IV and got me a nice warm blanket. I was in the room for a while just soaking up the fluids. She came back to do the tilt test with me--raise the bed up, drop it down fast, made me stand up, taking my blood pressure each time. Apparently I passed. Now that I was rehydrated, I was free to go. I was at the hospital for 4-5 hours.
I went home and rested. I have to say I have been more tired since then. I've gone to bed early every night since my little scare. I am thankful that nothing was seriously wrong. I have lots of grading to catch up on, so I will say goodnight for now.
